Traditional braces are the most effective solution when it comes to misaligned teeth and a crooked bite, but if you’re an adult, then likely the thought of having a mouthful of noticeable metal has made you hesitate to get the treatment you really want.
At Orthodontic Specialists of Marquette, Dr. Fulks is happy to offer our image-conscious patients a solution that combines the reliability of braces with aesthetics: Clarity™ clear/ceramic braces by 3M. Now, you can get the straighter smile you’ve always wanted without having to worry about your daily appearance.
Clear/ceramic braces are great firstly because they work using the same trusted method as traditional ones: a wire is placed along a row of teeth that applies a gentle pressure to slowly bring them into their ideal positions. The wires are held in place using small brackets that are cemented to each tooth for stability. As the treatment progresses, the wires are gradually tightened, and eventually, a patient will have a perfectly straight smile staring back at them in the mirror.
However, what makes them delightfully different is that instead of metal, the brackets and wires are made of a clear or tooth-colored material, enabling them to seamlessly blend into the smile. From a normal conversation distance, they are practically invisible. With them, patients are able to get the treatment they need discreetly and without worry.
How do clear/ceramic braces stack up against traditional metal ones? Quite well, actually:
We typically recommend clear/ceramic braces for adults and older children, because while their look can’t be beat, they are a bit more sensitive to damage relative to their metal counterparts. Also, in order to maintain their discreet look, a patient must be able to practice consistent oral hygiene. It should also be noted that for certain complex alignment issues, metal braces are the only solution.
Of course, the best way to really find out if ceramic braces are right for you or your child is to come see us for a consultation! You’ll get to know us, we’ll perform a brief exam, and we’ll be able to tell you more about this wonderful treatment.
